The 2021 Global Feral Fix Challenge is ON!
Unfortunately, as a result of COVID shutdowns, ACR is expecting the number of feral cats and colonies to grow, especially due to the impending kitten season. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that when clinics reopen, vets come forward to help TNR feral cats and curb the number of kittens being born on the streets. Unsterilized cats are suffering during this pandemic as well, and over 50% of kittens born on the streets get sick and die. This is why it is more important now than ever that vets step up and help mitigate this crisis as much and as soon as possible.
Are you interested in helping save cats' lives during this unprecedented time? You have the opportunity to dramatically change cats' and kittens' lives by reducing the number of kittens born on the streets and sterilizing adult cats so that they will no longer suffer by giving birth to litter after litter. If you are interested in donating your time and services at this critical point in history, please sign up below to participate in ACR's Feral Fix initiative. By dedicating your resources and time, you will play an integral role in reducing the number of kittens born on the streets this year and in the future.

The Feral Fix program is a annual initiative to save lives and promote the spaying and neutering of community cats. Alley Cat Rescue is calling on the veterinary community to provide free or low-cost spay and neuter surgery for at least one free-roaming cat each week. Please join us in a lifesaving challenge!
Approximately 3.2 million cats enter U.S. shelters each year, but sadly nearly 1 million of them won't make it out alive. When kitten season reaches its peak during the summer months, shelters quickly become overwhelmed by the high numbers of kittens pouring in – 80% of whom are those found outdoors, born from unsterilized, free-roaming cats. This is the primary reason why 2500 cats are euthanized each day in our country's shelters. We’re asking veterinarians to help us ‘fix’ the kitten invasion by pledging to spay or neuter at least two community cats each week during spring. Veterinarians are encouraged to work in collaboration with local animal rescuers and trap-neuter-return (TNR) groups to identify and assist cats in need of sterilization.
What you need to do:
1) Veterinarians and clinics can register here to take the pledge.
2) Beginning December 31st, veterinarians and clinics can submit their Feral Fix Challenge totals here.
Are you an individual who wants to make an impact for cats in your community? Complete this form and we'll invite them to take the Feral Fix Challenge! All veterinarians are eligible, and if you prefer to mail an invitation yourself, download our sample invitation here and personalize it for your local clinic!
After the Challenge is complete, make sure to record your totals here.
HISTORY
Alley Cat Rescue launched Feral Cat Spay Day (FCSD) in 2010 to encourage the veterinary community to offer free and low-cost trap-neuter-return (TNR) services to those who care for community cats. In 2017 we expanded the challenge from one day to a whole month in order to increase the impact for cats. To date, more than 1,100 participants in the U.S. and around the world have spayed or neutered nearly 60,000 community cats as part of this program! Participating vets and clinics made 2018 the Challenge's best year so far. For 2021, the Feral Fix Challenge will take place from now until the end of the year in order to sterilize as many cats as possible for a brighter 2022.
